Stabilizers for Machine Felting and Machine EmbroideryFeltingWhen using my Babylock Embellisher to make flat felt, I like to use a water soluble stabilizer to help me move the roving under the needles. I have found that Vilene, a non-woven, non-film water-soluble stabilizer is great for this purpose. I have also used it for creating free standing lace designs on my machine embroidery machine.After felting roving, yarns, threads, etc. on to the Vilene, I simply run the felt under warm water in my kitchen sink. The water removes the Vilene and leave you with your flat felt. You can do lots of things with this felt. You can shape it, while damp, over bowls or forms to create 3-D vessels including bowls and hats. For Tips for using Vilene, click here.
