For those of you who have been using Christopher Nejman's Book Pillows with your needle punching machine, you know that he uses LOTS of different colors of metallic and other fancy embroidery threads on his pillows. If you happen to have lots of threads on hand, then that is not big a deal. But, if you don't have a great variety, you might just find that purchasing a wide variety of colors and textures of threads may be cost prohibitive. Recently, when I was looking into embroidery thread kits, I stumbled on a fabulous find that is very reasonably priced for those who want to have a wide variety of choices without spending a small fortune. The kits are made by Madeira (a fabulous name in Embroidery Thread) and have a large number of spools with only 50 meters (about 44 yards) of each color. This is a great way to try out these threads and to have a great selection of colors to choose from at a relatively low cost.

There are three kits available. The first kit contains 24 spools of Madeira Supertwist thread in a hinged box. Some of the threads are variegated and some are a single color. All of the threads have texture to them because they are made with both polyester and metallic threads that have been twisted together. I love using these threads when I am doing free motion embroidery because my sewing/embroidery machine just loves them. And, they give me a fabulous texture in addition to the flash from the metallic thread.

The photos don't show all 24 colors, but you should have a good idea of what is in the package. I really love these threads. I hope you will too.

Madeira Round Metallic Thread Box

At least 9 of these colors are not in the 24 color Thread Box above. This box contains 10 spools of 50 meters (about 44 yards) of metallic threads. The colors are silver, 3 different gold colors, royal blue, red, green, purple, black/silver variegated and black/pastel variegated (this is similar to one color in the 24 color Thread Box.) The variegated threads are much like the Supertwist and have great texture. The other colors are like a more traditional metallic thread. I have used these metallic threads with great results on my sewing/embroidery machine.

Madeira Metallic Classic 8 Thread Box

This set contains 8 colors of metallic thread. It contains 100 meters (about 110 yards) on each spool. The colors are silver, 3 different golds, royal blue, red, green, and copper. These threads are very easy to use on sewing and embroidery machines. I prefer Madeira metallic and fancy threads to any others that I have tried.

Madeira Heavy Metal Resistant 8 Thread Box

This set contains 8 colors of metallic thread. It contains 100 meters (about 110 yards) on each spool. There are 3 different silver colors and 5 different gold colors in this set. I love having the option of using different shades of gold and silver in my embroidery. These are fantastic with designs with only a few colors. Without the different shades of gold or silver, these designs often look flat. I love the variety that these threads add to my embroidery.

Madeira Holographic 8 Thread Box

This set contains 5 colors of holographic thread. Each spool contains 100 meters (about 110 yards). There are 2 spools of gold, 2 spools of silver and 1 spool each of turquoise, pink, green and red. I have used a couple of different brands of holographic thread on my sewing and embroidery machines. These threads are more difficult to use than the average thread, but I have found Madeira threads much easier to use. These threads really add lots of shine and sparkle to your projects. Everyone should have a set of these threads in their stash.

Madeira Metallic Supertwist 8 Thread Box

This set contains 8 colors of Metallic Supertwist thread. Each spool contains 200 meters (about 220 yards). Supertwist thread twists a metallic thread with a polyester thread to make a metallic thread that is as easy to use as a polyester or rayon embroidery thread. The thread is thicker than a normal metallic thread and has tonal and tecture variations that are wonderful. This set includes green, red, copper, royal blue, gold, black/silver mix, silver/opal mix, and white opal. Great for the holidays or for everyday, you deserve a set of these threads.

Madeira Metallic Soft 8 Thread Box

This set contains metallic viscose thread wound with a soft and fine polyester foil. You can see the black thread and it takes on a soft sheen based on the color of foil that is used. The colors are black/silver, black/gold, black/pink, black/variegated pastel, black/blue, black/brass, black/peacock green, and black/copper. These threads are like none that I have seen. The thread is as smooth as a polyester thread, yet has the soft metallic sheen. The photo does not do this set of threads justice. If you like to work with blacks (and I really do) then this is a thread set that you definitely need. I love mine!!
